WORKING AS AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT
Working as an international student in the US may be possible on your student visa. This will depend on your employer, and how many hours of work are available. Precise regulations may vary considerably. Students interested in working while in the US should check with their school and local consulate.

There are several kinds of work available to an international student in the US.

On-Campus Employment
International students in the US may be able to work part-time for their educational institution using their study visa. Students should check with their educational institution for opportunities and guidelines.

Off-Campus Employment
International students in the US may be able to accept off-campus employment after the completion of their first year of study, under limited circumstances.

Co-op or Internship
Some programs include work-experience as part of their curriculum. To participate in such a program, international students in the US must have an I-20 endorsed for OPT, and provide a USCIS-issued Employment Authorization Document (EAD). Your school will be able to provide these documents.

Note: Family members who accompany students to the US will not be permitted to accept employment.
